AI Policy

International Journal of Health, Economics, and Social Science (IJHESS) acknowledges the growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in academic research and scientific writing. The journal supports the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of AI tools while maintaining the principles of academic integrity, originality, and human accountability in scholarly publishing.

This policy applies to all authors, reviewers, and editors involved in the publication process of IJHESS.

Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use AI-based tools to assist in activities such as:

  • Language improvement and grammar checking

  • Editing and formatting assistance

  • Literature organization and data processing

  • Research support and analytical assistance

However, authors remain fully responsible for:

  • The accuracy and originality of the manuscript

  • The validity of data, analysis, and conclusions

  • Proper citation and ethical use of sources

  • Ensuring that AI-generated content does not contain plagiarism, fabricated information, misleading statements, or copyright violations

AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility, accountability, or intellectual ownership of scholarly work.

Authors are encouraged to disclose the use of AI tools in the manuscript when such tools significantly contribute to content generation, analysis, or manuscript preparation.

Prohibited Use of AI

The following practices are strictly prohibited:

  • Using AI to generate fabricated data, false citations, or manipulated research findings

  • Submitting fully AI-generated manuscripts without substantial human contribution and verification

  • Using AI in ways that violate publication ethics, copyright, or confidentiality

  • Manipulating peer-review or editorial processes using AI technologies

Any misuse of AI that compromises academic integrity may result in manuscript rejection, retraction, or other editorial actions.

Use of AI by Reviewers

Reviewers must maintain confidentiality of all manuscripts received for review. Manuscripts or unpublished data may not be uploaded to public AI systems or third-party platforms that could compromise confidentiality, intellectual property, or author rights.

Reviewers are expected to conduct evaluations independently and professionally without relying solely on AI-generated assessments.

Use of AI by Editors

Editors may use AI-supported tools for technical screening purposes such as:

  • Plagiarism detection

  • Language assessment

  • Reference checking

  • Editorial workflow support

However, all editorial decisions remain under human responsibility and professional judgment. Editors are accountable for ensuring fairness, confidentiality, transparency, and ethical standards throughout the publication process.

Ethical Principles

IJHESS promotes the responsible use of AI technologies in scholarly communication while emphasizing:

  • Transparency

  • Accountability

  • Academic honesty

  • Human oversight

  • Ethical research conduct

The publisher, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palu, and the editorial board reserve the right to evaluate and take appropriate action regarding any unethical or inappropriate use of AI in submitted or published manuscripts.
