Artificial Intelligence Usage Policy

Media Publikasi Promosi Kesehatan Indonesia (MPPKI) permits limited, responsible, and transparent use of generative artificial intelligence and AI-assisted tools during manuscript preparation. Such tools may support authors but must not replace human authorship, scholarly judgment, accountability, or critical evaluation.
Examples include, but are not limited to, ChatGPT, Grammarly, DeepL, and QuillBot. Mention of a product does not constitute endorsement by MPPKI.

Permitted Uses
AI-assisted tools may be used only as supportive instruments under direct human supervision for the following limited purposes.
Language Editing
Spelling, grammar, punctuation, and stylistic refinement.
Clarity and Readability
Improving coherence and readability without altering scientific meaning.
Language Translation Support
Assisting language translation when the complete output is verified by the authors.
Early Structural Assistance
Assisting with an outline or organization at an early drafting stage under author control.
Prohibited Uses
AI tools must not be used in ways that replace authors’ intellectual contribution, create unreliable scholarly content, or conceal how a manuscript was produced.
Substantial Text Generation
Generating substantial manuscript sections, including the abstract, results, discussion, or conclusion.
Research Content Creation
Producing, fabricating, or manipulating research data, images, tables, figures, or statistical analyses.
References and Citations
Generating unverified references, citations, quotations, or bibliographic information.
Undisclosed AI Content
Submitting material AI-generated content without critical human review, verification, and required disclosure.
AI Authorship
Listing an AI system as an author or co-author or attributing human accountability to an AI tool.
Disclosure and Transparency
Material use of AI-assisted tools must be disclosed in a dedicated section titled Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process. The declaration must identify the tool, version where available, and specific purpose of use.

Confidentiality and Data Protection
Authors must not upload identifiable participant information, confidential research data, copyrighted material without permission, or other restricted content to an external AI service unless such processing is ethically approved, legally permitted, and consistent with applicable data-protection requirements and the service’s terms.
Reviewers and editors: Submitted manuscripts, review reports, editorial correspondence, and unpublished data are confidential. They must not be uploaded to external generative-AI systems unless the journal has formally approved a secure tool and its use complies with confidentiality and data-protection requirements. AI must not replace independent peer-review or editorial judgment.
AI as a research method: This policy primarily governs AI use in manuscript preparation. When AI is legitimately used as part of the study design, intervention, data analysis, or research method, authors must describe the system, version, inputs, validation, limitations, and oversight transparently in the Methods section and comply with all applicable ethical and data requirements.
Editorial Action and Policy Review
Undisclosed or inappropriate AI use may result in a request for clarification or revision, manuscript rejection, post-publication correction or retraction, and further ethical review, depending on the severity and effect of the issue.
This policy will be reviewed periodically to reflect changes in AI technologies and recognized standards in scholarly publishing.
AI may support manuscript preparation, but responsibility for every submitted claim, source, analysis, and conclusion remains entirely human.
