Promotif: Jurnal Kesehatan Masyarakat (PJKM) is committed to preserving its published scholarly content and essential metadata so that the journal remains accessible, discoverable, authentic, and usable over the long term.
Digital preservation includes the technical, organisational, and editorial processes required to protect journal files against hardware failure, accidental deletion, corruption, cyber incidents, platform migration, format obsolescence, service interruption, and discontinuation of publication.
Preservation Principles
Redundancy
Multiple copies reduce dependence on one storage location.
Integrity
Published content and metadata should remain accurate and unaltered.
Continuity
Access should be restored promptly after technical disruption.
Discoverability
Persistent identifiers and metadata support continued discovery.
Content Covered
Preservation arrangements may cover the following journal assets:
Published article files Issue and article metadata Supplementary materials Editorial policy pages DOI and citation metadata Website configuration and database Journal logos and media assets Correction and retraction notices
Website and Server Backup
PJKM's electronic content, including the website, database, manuscripts, and related files, is maintained across three storage sources. One copy supports the active online journal service, while copies on two additional sources provide backup and recovery capacity.
If the active server becomes unavailable, the journal aims to restore access from an alternative source within approximately 24–36 hours, subject to the cause, severity, infrastructure availability, cybersecurity requirements, and integrity checks needed before service restoration.
Continuity and Recovery Process
1
Detection
Technical staff identify a service interruption, corruption event, or loss of availability.
2
Assessment
The affected systems, database, files, security conditions, and most recent reliable backup are assessed.
3
Restoration
A verified backup or alternative source is used to restore journal functionality and content.
4
Verification
Content, links, metadata, access permissions, and essential journal functions are checked before normal service resumes.
Distributed Preservation
PJKM identifies LOCKSS and CLOCKSS as distributed preservation mechanisms for maintaining secure copies of journal content and supporting continued access in circumstances such as catastrophic website failure or discontinuation of publication.
LOCKSS
Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe supports distributed preservation by maintaining multiple copies across participating archival nodes.
CLOCKSS
Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe provides preservation and controlled access to archived scholarly content following defined trigger events.
Implementation note: The journal should periodically verify that its current preservation registrations, participation status, holdings, and coverage are active and accurately represented on this page.
Persistent Identifiers and Metadata
PJKM assigns or registers persistent identifiers, including Digital Object Identifiers where applicable, and disseminates bibliographic metadata to relevant registration, indexing, and discovery services. Persistent identifiers and metadata help readers locate the scholarly record even when website structures or file locations change.
Abstracting, Indexing, and Discovery Services
Abstracting and indexing services preserve important citation and descriptive metadata. Some services may also retain or provide access to article files. These external records support discoverability and may provide alternative routes to journal content; however, indexing is supplementary and does not replace a dedicated preservation strategy.
File Formats and Migration
PJKM seeks to use commonly supported and transferable digital formats for published articles, metadata, images, and supplementary files. Where a format becomes obsolete or incompatible with the journal platform, files may be migrated to a more sustainable format while preserving content, citation information, and the integrity of the version of record.
Version of Record and Post-Publication Notices
The final published article is treated as the version of record. Corrections, retractions, expressions of concern, and other post-publication notices must be preserved and linked transparently to the affected article. Preservation does not mean that an inaccurate version should remain unqualified; the archival record must also retain the journal's corrective notices.
Author Self-Archiving
Authors may archive the final published version of their articles in personal, institutional, subject, or funder repositories immediately after publication, subject to accurate citation, version labelling, the journal's copyright notice, and the applicable CC BY-SA 4.0 licence.
Authors should include the article DOI or permanent PJKM URL so that repository users can identify and cite the version of record.
If the Journal Ceases Publication
PJKM intends to continue publishing for the long term. If the journal is required to cease publication, the publisher intends to keep previously published content online and accessible for at least 10 years, subject to infrastructure, legal, security, and preservation conditions.
Where continued hosting is not possible because of discontinuation, catastrophic failure, or another trigger event, preserved content should remain accessible through applicable archival systems, repositories, or successor arrangements.
Responsibilities
Publisher and Institution
Provide infrastructure, backup arrangements, governance support, and continuity planning.
Technical Administration
Maintain systems, backups, security controls, restoration capability, and platform compatibility.
Editorial Team
Maintain accurate metadata, file completeness, DOI records, version control, and linked post-publication notices.
Authors
Provide complete, readable, lawful, and properly documented files and preserve their own research records where appropriate.
Monitoring and Policy Review
The journal should review backup success, restoration readiness, repository or archival participation, file-format sustainability, DOI and metadata quality, and policy accuracy periodically. Material changes to preservation arrangements should be reflected transparently on this page.
