Publishing Policy

Horizon of Public Health Sciences (HoPHS) is an immediate open-access journal. All scholarly articles are made freely available online upon publication without subscription, registration, paywall, or embargo. Authors retain copyright in their published work, while articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.

HoPHS distinguishes between copyright ownership and licensing. Copyright remains with the author(s). The CC BY 4.0 license defines the permissions granted to readers and other reusers of the published article.

Open Access Policy

Immediate access to the scholarly record

HoPHS provides immediate free access to the full text of all published scholarly articles. No embargo period is imposed. Readers are not required to pay, subscribe, or register in order to read, download, or access the journal's open-access scholarly content.

Free to read

Published articles are accessible online without charge from the date of publication. Access is not delayed by subscription periods or post-publication embargoes.

Openly reusable

Open access at HoPHS includes reuse rights under CC BY 4.0. Articles are therefore not merely free-to-read; they may also be shared and adapted in accordance with the terms of the license.

Authors retain copyright

Copyright in articles published by HoPHS remains with the author(s), or another legitimate copyright holder where applicable. Publication in HoPHS does not require transfer of copyright ownership to the journal, Faculty of Public Health, or Universitas Muhammadiyah Palu.

Rights granted to HoPHS

By publishing in HoPHS, the author(s) grant the journal the non-exclusive right of first publication and the non-exclusive rights necessary to publish, reproduce, distribute, display, preserve, archive, index, transmit, and identify the article as having been first published in HoPHS, in all appropriate formats and media.

HoPHS does not require authors to assign exclusive commercial rights to the publisher. The author remains the copyright holder and may exercise those rights subject to any third-party rights or contractual obligations applicable to the work.

Unless otherwise indicated for specific third-party material, articles published by HoPHS are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Attribution 4.0 International

Users may copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format, including for commercial purposes.

Adapt

Users may remix, transform, translate, extract from, and build upon the material, including for commercial purposes.

These permissions are irrevocable provided that users comply with the license terms. The CC BY 4.0 license does not permit users to impose additional legal or technological restrictions that prevent others from exercising rights granted by the license.

Reuse Requirements

Appropriate attribution is required

Reuse does not normally require separate permission from HoPHS when the material is covered by CC BY 4.0 and the reuse complies with the license. Reusers must provide appropriate attribution and must not imply endorsement by the author(s), HoPHS, or Universitas Muhammadiyah Palu.

Credit the creator(s)

Provide appropriate credit to the author(s) and identify the original publication in HoPHS.

Identify the source

Include a citation, DOI, article URL, or other appropriate persistent link to the original work where available.

Link to CC BY 4.0

State that the material is licensed under CC BY 4.0 and provide a link to the applicable Creative Commons license.

Indicate modifications

If the material has been translated, adapted, edited, remixed, or otherwise changed, indicate that modifications were made.

A practical reuse statement

Example:
“Adapted from [Author(s)], ‘[Article Title],’ Horizon of Public Health Sciences, [Year], [DOI/URL], licensed under CC BY 4.0. Changes were made.”

This is an illustrative format rather than a mandatory citation style. Attribution may be provided in another reasonable form as long as the requirements of CC BY 4.0 are satisfied.

Author Sharing & Self-Archiving

No embargo on author sharing

Because authors retain copyright, HoPHS permits authors to deposit and share versions of their work without a journal-imposed embargo, subject to the rights of any third-party material included in the manuscript.

Author Manuscripts

Authors may deposit submitted or accepted manuscript versions in institutional, disciplinary, funder, or other appropriate repositories, consistent with any applicable third-party obligations.

Version of Record

Authors may share or deposit the final published Version of Record immediately, provided that the HoPHS publication is properly identified and the applicable CC BY 4.0 license is retained.

Repository Deposit

Deposit is permitted in institutional and subject repositories, personal scholarly profiles, funder repositories, and other lawful platforms that preserve the article's citation and licensing information.

Third-Party Material

Not every element in an article is necessarily covered by CC BY 4.0

Figures, photographs, maps, instruments, datasets, excerpts, or other content reproduced from third parties may be subject to different copyright or licensing terms. Such material should be clearly identified in the article, figure legend, table note, or other appropriate location.

If material is explicitly identified as excluded from the article's CC BY 4.0 license, users must determine whether their intended reuse is permitted by law, an applicable exception or limitation, another stated license, or separate permission from the relevant copyright holder.

Author Responsibility

Authors must hold the rights necessary for publication

Authors are responsible for ensuring that they have sufficient rights to publish all material included in their submission. Where copyrighted third-party content is used, authors must obtain permission when required and provide accurate attribution, copyright notices, licensing statements, or other acknowledgments required by the rights holder.

Authors should retain documentation of permissions and provide it to HoPHS upon request. Publication by the journal does not override third-party copyright, privacy, publicity, database, Indigenous or community rights, or other rights that may apply to specific material.

Scope of This Policy

Article licensing is distinct from website copyright

The CC BY 4.0 policy described on this page applies to scholarly articles published by HoPHS unless otherwise stated. It does not automatically apply to the journal's logo, website design, navigation elements, administrative content, trademarks, third-party images, or other website material unless those materials are expressly identified as being available under the same license.

Publication Display

HoPHS will display the copyright holder and applicable open license on the published article and, where supported by the publishing platform, in article metadata. The same licensing information should be identifiable in the HTML article record and the published PDF.
