Literature Review: Natural Antioxidants from Ulva spp. and Their Implications for Cellular Protection

Abstract

Radikal bebas adalah zat berbahaya yang dapat merusak sel dan memicu berbagai penyakit. Ulva spp., jenis alga hijau yang banyak ditemukan di laut, mengandung senyawa alami seperti polifenol, flavonoid, karotenoid, vitamin, dan polisakarida ulvan yang berfungsi sebagai antioksidan. Senyawa-senyawa ini bekerja dengan cara menetralkan radikal bebas, mengikat logam pemicu stres oksidatif, serta membantu meningkatkan sistem pertahanan tubuh. Mekanisme perlindungan zat antioksidan terhadap stres oksidatif, mencakup aktivitas scavenging, kelasi logam, aktivasi jalur transduksi sinyal antioksidan (NrF2-ARE, NF-?B), dan peningkatan ekspresi enzim pelindung seluler. Kajian literatur ini menyajikan informasi mengenai Ulva spp., kandungan senyawa antioksidan yang dimilikinya, serta mekanisme kerjanya dalam mendukung perlindungan seluler.
