Volume 8, Issue 2 of the Journal of Foreign Languages and Educational Research (JOFLER) presents six empirical studies highlighting the dynamics of teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The main theme of this issue is the integration of digital media and technology to facilitate language acquisition. The effectiveness of audiovisual media is explored through research on the use of English-language films to improve students’ pronunciation, as well as a specific study on the use of YouTube as an interactive learning medium to enhance vocabulary mastery at the junior high school level. Expanding on this scope, one article provides a comprehensive review of the general impact of technology on EFL learning outcomes in the Indonesian educational context.
In addition to digital integration, this issue also examines pedagogical innovations tailored to learners’ language skills and proficiency levels. One study critically evaluates the application of the Dictogloss technique for vocabulary acquisition among students with low proficiency levels, emphasizing collaborative text reconstruction. In the realm of productive skills, a quasi-experimental study demonstrates how the mind mapping technique can significantly enhance students’ cognitive abilities in structuring and writing procedural texts. Finally, touching on a fundamental aspect of literacy, this issue investigates the holistic role of the learning environment, which extends beyond the confines of physical library facilities, in shaping students’ reading interests and deepening their engagement with literacy.
