Teachers' Strategies in Teaching Speaking at High School

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the teachers’ strategies in teaching speaking at SMAN 5 Palu. This research used descriptive method to analyze the data and discuss the findings. The subject of this research is the English teachers in SMAN 5 Palu. The data of the research were collected by carrying out an interview and questionnaire. The researcher found that there are four strategies used by the teachers: role play, interview, describing picture, and storytelling. Of these four strategies, role play is the most frequently used by the teacher because in this strategy involves many students so many students are active in learning.
