TGF-?1 contributes significantly to the wound healing process. Chronic wounds that do not heal often indicate a loss of TGF-?1 signaling. Propolis and coconut shell liquid smoke (CS-LS) are natural ingredients that contain antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic compounds to accelerate wound healing. This study aimed to prove the effectiveness of using a topical combination of propolis and CS-LS in accelerating the healing process of degree II burns and their relationship with the expression of TGF-?1 in serum. Method: A 14-day in vivo experimental investigation using Wistar rats was carried out with a total sample of 25 rats divided into 4 groups.; Group 1, treated with sulfadiazine ointment; Group 2, treated with propolis ointment; Group 3, treated with CS-LS ointment; Group 4, treated with the combination of propolis and CS-LS ointment, and 1 control group without treatment. Serum TGF-?1 levels were determined by ELISA.

Result: Measurements of wound size were on days 0,3,7 and 14. This study obtained results the combination ointment group alone had significantly different TGF-?1 levels from day 7 to day 14 and experienced a decrease in TGF-?1 levels of 52.28 ?/mg. Based on wound size, there was a significant difference in all groups (p<0.05), this was supported by the mean value of wound size which was smaller in the sulfadiazine ointment group and the combination (propolis and liquid smoke) ointment group.

Conclusion: The combination of propolis and coconut shell liquid smoke can be considered as an alternative in the treatment of second degree burns because of its ability to reduce TGF-?1 and accelerate burn wound healing.

Keywords: wound healing, propolis, coconut shell liquid smoke, TGF-?1
Aida ayu chandrawati, Marhaen Hardjo, Syahrijuita Kadir Copyright (c) 2025 Aida ayu chandrawati, Marhaen Hardjo, Syahrijuita Kadir https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.unismuhpalu.ac.id/index.php/PJKM/article/view/6570 Fri, 07 Feb 2025 00:00:00 +0700 Analysis of Early Breastfeeding Initiation for Newborns in Palu City https://jurnal.unismuhpalu.ac.id/index.php/PJKM/article/view/7853
Introduction: Early breastfeeding initiation is a critical intervention to reduce neonatal mortality and increase exclusive breastfeeding However, its implementation in RSIA Tinatapura Palu is still not optimal. This study aimed to assess the provision of early initiation of breastfeeding in newborns and identify the factors that inhibit it at Tinatapura Mother and Child Hospital,

Methods: This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, which aims to conduct in-depth interviews through data collection from various sources of information.

Results: This study found that implementation of early breastfeeding initiation at RSIA Tinatapura Palu was not optimal, with the majority of mothers reporting no IMD Key barriers included low maternal knowledge about IMD, postpartum maternal and infant health conditions, inconsistent hospital policies such as mother-infant separation after delivery (especially for sectio caesarean/premature cases) and flexibility in formula feeding without medical indication, and inadequate support from health workers, including lack of education and a tendency to recommend While hospitals claim to provide training and education, there is a gap between policy and practice on the

Conclusion: The implementation of early breastfeeding initiation in RSIA Tinatapura Palu is still not running. Structured interventions are needed in the form of clear IMD protocols, increased education for mothers and families, and ongoing training for health workers to ensure consistent and standardized IMD.
Ayu Lestari, Shindi Karmila Adam, Jamaludin M Sakung Copyright (c) https://jurnal.unismuhpalu.ac.id/index.php/PJKM/article/view/7853 Tue, 15 Jul 2025 15:56:35 +0700 Enhancing Knowledge and Awareness of Routine Hypertension Control and Medication in Panjang Jiwo, Surabaya https://jurnal.unismuhpalu.ac.id/index.php/PJKM/article/view/7381
Background: The Tenggilis Public Health Center (Puskesmas Tenggilis) is devoted to implementing Community Health Efforts (UKM) to ensure the provision of high-quality healthcare services, focusing on the measurement, monitoring, and supervision of local health problems. A Self-Assessment Survey (Survey Mawas Diri” (SMD) in Indonesian language) was conducted in Panjang Jiwo Village, Surabaya, revealing hyperten”sion as a primary health issue. Characterized by a systolic blood pressure ?140 mmHg and a diastolic pressure ?90 mmHg, hypertension remains widespread, with many residents unaware of the necessity for lifelong medication adherence and routine blood pressure monitoring.

Methods: To address this health challenge, a thorough analysis was conducted, examining the root causes through the "man, method, machine, and material" framework. This approach informed the development of a targeted intervention strategy.

Results:The intervention involved designing and distributing a Hypertension Calendar, providing an accessible means for residents to record their blood pressure readings and track medication adherence throughout the year. The calendar serves as a useful tool during healthcare visits, fostering enhanced dialogue between patients and healthcare providers regarding hypertension management.

Conclusions: The introduction of the Hypertension Calendar aims to empower individuals with essential knowledge and tools for effective hypertension management, ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes in the Panjang Jiwo community.

Key words: Hypertension; Community Empowerment; Public Health; Health Promotion; Health Education

Kellyn Trycia Zenjaya, Ronald Pratama Adiwinoto, Callista Vivien Earlyanti, Bima Abdul Azis, Yahdiyan Fathir Fadhilah, Fairuziah Dinda Umardy, Amalia Dewindra Candra Puspita, Sekar Kurnia Cahya, Dinnara Nelya Rindayu, Vania Roanna Gabrielle Copyright (c) 2025 Kellyn Tricia Zenjaya, Ronald Pratama Adiwinoto, Callista Vivien Earlyanti, Bima Abdul Azis, Yahdiyan Fathir Fadhilah, Fairuziah Dinda Umardy, Amalia Dewindra Candra Puspita, Sekar Kurnia Cahya, Dinnara Nelya Rindayu, Vania Roanna Gabrielle https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.unismuhpalu.ac.id/index.php/PJKM/article/view/7381 Tue, 12 Aug 2025 21:25:10 +0700 Improving Mental Health Knowledge for Adolescents: Literature Review https://jurnal.unismuhpalu.ac.id/index.php/PJKM/article/view/7010
Introduction: Mental health is a crucial human right, especially for adolescents. The WHO states that more than 50% of mental disorders appear by the age of 14, yet often go undetected, negatively impacting education and socialization. RISKESDAS 2013-2018 showed an increase in mental emotional disorders in 15 years old and above from 6.0% to 9.8%. Surveillance of child and adolescent mental health is critical, requiring awareness and resource allocation. Schools, as the closest environment, play a role in early detection of mental disorders and should increase knowledge about mental health to reduce stigma. This increased knowledge is essential for adolescents to overcome mental health problems and maintain a better quality of life.

Methods: This study used a systematic literature review approach by following the PRISMA method. Data searches were conducted in October 2024 through various sources such as PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, with the keywords “Mental Health Knowledge” and “Adolescent Mental Health”. So that a total of 20 articles were eligible for use in this study.

Results: The 20 articles showed that interventions such as socialization and school health efforts significantly improved adolescents' knowledge about mental health.

Conclusion: A significant increase in adolescents' knowledge related to mental health was made after the provision of interventions or treatments such as socialization, school health efforts and exposure related to mental health in adolescents. This is known based on the increase in scores on the adolescent post-test.

KEYWORDS: Mental Health Knowledge; Adolescent Mental Health;
Nunung Wulandari, Apoina Kartini , Cahya Tri Purnami Copyright (c) 2025 Nunung Wulandari, Apoina Kartini , Cahya Tri Purnami https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.unismuhpalu.ac.id/index.php/PJKM/article/view/7010 Tue, 12 Aug 2025 08:48:26 +0700 The Relationship between the Nutritional Status of Adolescent Girls and the Incidence of Anemia: Literature Review https://jurnal.unismuhpalu.ac.id/index.php/PJKM/article/view/7009
Introduction: Nutritional status is an indicator of body condition that is influenced by diet and nutrient utilization. Poor nutrient intake in adolescent girls has the potential to cause anemia where women are more susceptible to micronutrient deficiencies. WHO reports that 30% of women aged 15-49 years are anemic, with the highest prevalence in adolescents 15-19 years. The problem of anemia in adolescent girls has not been resolved, with low adherence to iron supplementation programs and poor nutritional knowledge.

Methods: This study used a systematic literature review following the PRISMA method. Data were searched in several sources, including Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar, with the keywords “Nutritional status of adolescent girls” and “Anemia in adolescent girls.” The search process started in October 2024, focusing on relevant literature on nutritional status and anemia in adolescent girls and resulted in 20 articles used in this study.

Results: Based on the articles that have been extracted and analyzed, 5 research articles showed an association between nutritional status and the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls, and 6 other articles stated that there was no association between nutritional status and the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls.

Conclusion: The incidence of anemia in adolescent girls is generally caused by iron deficiency, due to irregular eating patterns, and consumption of junk food. In addition, it can also be caused by lack of knowledge, parents' income, mother's education, protein intake, vitamin C intake, breakfast habits, genetic factors, history of infectious diseases, and menstrual conditions.

KEYWORDS: Nutritional Status of Adolescent Girls; Incidence of Anemia; Anemia in Adolescent Girls;
Isti Sulistyana Djati, Sri Achadi Nugraheni, Ayun Sriatmi Copyright (c) 2025 Isti Sulistyana Djati, Sri Achadi Nugraheni, Ayun Sriatmi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://jurnal.unismuhpalu.ac.id/index.php/PJKM/article/view/7009 Mon, 18 Aug 2025 20:33:58 +0700
